Camera Reviews, News Releases

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

As I do not personally get the chance to review these Cameras up close and personal I rely on good sources to check the product out. I’ll give you links to my sources and the Manufacture:
The Nikon D40X is a 10.2 MP SLR Camera; takes pictures in JPEG and RAW format. This is Nikon’s replacement to the D40 a 6.1MP. At their news release this Camera is scheduled to launch 3/29/2007
Olympus also announced new releases with the E-510 a 10MP SLR camera that is the upgrade to the E-500 an 8MP(which is my personal camera). The E-510 has live preview which the E-500 does not and takes pictures in the RAW and JPEG formats, it appears to have lost the TIFF format which I personally like; but only time will tell when it actually appears on the market, Also in the E series family is the E-410 SLR a 10 MP follows the E-400, it too takes pictures in the JPEG and RAW file format, expected release dates for these two cameras are in June of 07. Olympus also announce the release of the Stylus 780 a 7.1MP with only JPEG file format is expected to be released in April 07

Ricoh also announced the release of the Caplio R6 this is a 7.1 wide angle thin camera. This camera claims to have a 54M memory on board which will allow you to take up to 34 pictures in “normal mode without a memory card.

Checking the Kodak and Cannon sites there are no new camera releases for March.
Also checking the news at GE announced in February that it is entering the Digital Camera Market with 7.1MP up to 12MP Cameras, the release of its new products is scheduled later this year.
As always one of my sources for reviews is Digital Photography Review they actually get hands on experience with some of the cameras.

Promotions at Kodak site

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

This is something I just had to tell you about

Kodak has a great page of promotions on their site. One of them is a trade in for any digital camera any brand you have if you buy a new KODAK EASYSHARE from the Kodak store you can trade in your old one for cash!
There are 5 simple steps to follow.
Go to the link above, scroll down to find the trade in section on the right, click on that and follow the steps.
1. Register
2. Go to the trade in estimator
3. Buy your new camera
4. Mail in your Kodak receipt and old camera
5. Once they receive the camera you get your check in 7 to 10 business days.
Just a reminder; follow all the instructions carefully! Send the camera back with return receipt signature, that way you’ll know when they got it. Also and get the estimate on your camera before you buy the new one.
I estimated 2 of my cameras one was broken of course and worth zip, nada, zilch, and the other I could get $157.00 for that’s about 1/4 of what I paid for it. IT’S just a CYA thing.

TECH TALK, So you want a Digital Camera?

Friday, March 30th, 2007

The first thing that you need to decide when you go to purchase a camera is who is going to use it and what are you going to use it for?
Do you want one with a self timer so you can be in the shot? And how easy is it to use?
If it’s just for family photos then a point and shoot with a low pixel count is good.
As a digital photographer I have investigated many cameras and I feel that for most house holds a 5MP is most you’re going to need. You can go as low as 3MP (yes they are still out there) the best print you’ll get from a 3MP is a 4 X 6. Not to say you can’t print larger it’s the quality we’re going for! (I’ll talk more on that later)
You can get a great 5MP almost any place for $100.00 to $200.00.
And this will give you good quality 8 X 10 prints.
A good place to compare cameras and get camera reviews is digital photography review at this site you can choose by brand find the camera you want and they even give price comparison, just check the dates that the review was made. This is a more in-depth place to search and gives great reviews about the product. I would use this site if you know exactly what you are looking for. Another great place to compare cameras if price and easy read is more your style is C/net reviews at this site you can compare by pricing, resolution or manufacture.
I will keep you up to date on the latest camera releases on my Friday blogs.
